My husband and I will be visiting my family in San Diego around the holidays and have one day to ourselves. I was hoping some of you could recommend a hotel in the La Jolla area and a sunrise/morning shooting location. I've been down there a few times, but that's been 10 years ago now and we want to maximize our time. Thanks for any comments suggestions!

Hi Anne, there are a bunch of hotels in the area but unfortunately I don't have any personal experience with them, so I can't make a recommendation there.

If you have one sunrise to shoot, and the sky is clear to the east, I might suggest "Broken Hill" in Torrey Pines State Reserve. This is about 15 minutes north of La Jolla and requires a short and easy 1/2 mile hike. You should be able to google for directions.

Hello Anne,

If your going to be in La Jolla you might want to consider some sunset shooting. In addition, if you can time the day with a nice low tide coinciding with sunset you have a tremendous shoreline along Coast Blvd with plenty of tide pools that make some very interesting fgs. Sunsets are beautiful here during the winter months.

Agree with Jason, that if a sunrise is all you'll have I too recommend Torrey Pines State Reserve. - Easy driving from La Jolla. Enjoy your stay.
