Arizona's Autumn Palette
After seeing the bounty of fall color images that Bill and Doug have posted from AZ, I decided to share a few of my own. These first two from West Fork Canyon were actually shot beyond where the official trail ends. Thus they required a nearly waist high wade in some pretty chilly water to reach. Of course for most of you, that would probably only be a little more than knee high...the curse of being short!! Anyway, I timed my arrival at both these locations to coincide with the sun hitting the walls behind me, thus bathing them in warm, reflected light. The details are suffering in all of these shots due to high amounts of jpeg compression going on, but you get the idea.

# 3 - Colorful West Fork

#4 - Pumphouse Wash...I know this is a bit busy, but that's the nature of this lesser traveled canyon. There is no trail here...you simply navigate the endless fields of jumbo boulders like the ones you see here. It was a very exhausting trip, but on a day when West Fork was choked with visitors, I never saw a soul here.

#5 - Hart Prairie Road near Flagstaff...probably the most popular leaf peeping area this year because of the unfortunate closure of the Locket Meadow area.

#6 - Horton Creek...this is a gem of a watershed found northeast of Payson. Fantastic autumn colors coupled with many small waterfalls made this an enjoyable day trip.

#7 - Ok...this isn't really an autumn shot, but it was shot in the same time frame as the others. It had been a crappy, on again off again rainy day and I decided to take my dog and a camera for a walk at the end of it. Sometimes you just luck out!

That's it...thanks for looking!

Really wonderful stuff Guy. Arizona is my new favorite place for fall colors, as if I needed another reason to visit my grandaughter in Phoenix.

The bad news is that posting these images may cause the Coloradification of Arizona.

These are all fantastic, Guy. Gorgeous color, spectacular locations. Nice!

I've been through Pumphouse a few times and it really is a gorgeous and little traveled canyon. Loved that image despite (or because of) the chaotic nature of the image.

I WILL be down there next fall.

What a fantastic series of images! No way I'll attempt to pick a favorite. Total eye candy all around. :toast:

I saw many of these earlier, but it's a right pleasure seeing them again here.
Every single one of these is simply outstanding! The last one is definitely 'Arizona Highways' worthy.
You've taken to your new home like a dog to a bone. Hope you'll keep sharing your new work here with us.

What a set! I love all of them, but #4 is especially appealing to me for some reason. Maybe it's the contrast of the colored foliage with the grayer rocks. I really like the waterblur coming off those angled stones in #6 too.

They're all nice, Guy, but the Hart Prairie Road shot really captivated me.
