Juvenile Bald Eagle- (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
Taken leaving the harbour in Kodiak, Alaska mid morning last September. This guy was perched on one of the inlet rocks and had been squawking for mum to feed him. She obliged eventually.

For such a big bird they are surprisingly timid and shooting from a small boat has it's own problems. To see them flying to catching fish is something worth watching and not trying to capture, as you miss so much. Seeing them in their natural habitat and hunting as they would do I personally feel conflicts with sites like Gigrin as birds get lazy and leads IMHO to feed elsewhere like town & gardens.

Geoff yes a nice interlude, but for a real adrenaline rush the Grizzlies took the biscuit, similar to your Sparrowhawk, however to be so close to those awesome beasts was truly amazing

Ian, yep easily sorted, just liked the Autumnal colours and a change from the 'Dulux range of BG's.

A great spot Steve, well done.

It stands out well from the BKGR and the head angle police won't fine you for this one ! It might stand a slightly tighter crop as well.

Cheers

I remember in St Petersburg one morning there were loads of these guys perched on railings. If I had todays outfit I would have been a happy snapper. Thanks for the memories, cos its those that count. Great shot too, especially from aboat with the 500 :o

Nice capture Steve. Lovely detail in the bird and I like the BG and perch.
