I've just had a brief play with the new D7000 (thanks again Rene) and tested it at high ISO against the D300. Thought some of you may find it interesting if you are thinking about getting Nikons latest bit of kit

Hi Richard
I have been using a D7000 for over 3 weeks and shot extensively in the Great Smoky Mountains as well as at home, I did some tests like you against my D300 and found that the D7000 is about 1 stop better i.e iso 800 is about the same as 400 on the D300, The one thing that i have noticed is that at 100% the D7000 looks a little softer and has slightly less detail than the D300, DR on the D7000 is very good as are the colours-a bargain and probably the best cropped body on the market at the moment although very small and light compared to others which you will either love or hate

Interesting you found the D7000 softer as my test showed it to be much sharper than the D300!
Agree it's the best crop on the market! Nice little camera.
Cheers
