Pheasant (F) - Phasianus colchicus)
The males are looking great at this time of year set against the Autumn foliage, however I feel sometimes we forget the female who looks more subdued in plumage, but just as nice. Taken early in the morning, she fitted well with the overall BG colours. Yes, a few will want to take the grass out, but I think it stays in, as this is part & parcel of the image & habitat and therefore would be misleading. Not chance of trimming in situ.

Tones, colours and details are spot on Steve.
I like the OOF foreground and diffused background, the sharpness and catchlight in the eye.

I agree, in an ideal world, the main strand of grass across the body would not be present but that's nature.

Cheers

Austin

I agree about the females Steve. When viewed up close they have beautiful plumage. Love the BG and FG mush. I am sure if you had asked her nicely she would have let you trim those few strands of grass

Lovely shot loads of detail and complimentary tones and I am with you regarding the plumage of female gamebirds.

Steve, lovely image of the not to often photographed female. I agree about leaving the grass in if the image were to be submitted to a competition. But, if the image is being used for illustrative purposes well....who knows what the answer is as I for one do not! Andrew
