Seasonal photo series
I don't know how this is going to look posted here, but I just completed my seasonal series of the "Sleeping George Washington" rock formation in Roxborough State Park. I haven't decided on my final composition or framing, but I am leaning towards keeping the early and later autumn photos in this grouping.
C&C appreciated.

That is really well done, Jim! I do think having five panels to represent four seasons isn't a good idea, and would suggest picking one fall image and leaving it at that. Which one? Probably the bottom one, since it lacks the hard shadow along the bottom that intrudes on the one above it. It also better shows those nice dried grasses, another great representation of fall. And it has awesome clouds instead of empty blue sky.

But that winter one is especially sweet.

Great series. Looks as if you have those tripod holes well marked

I think he left his tripod there all year! This is a great series Jim. I agree with Todd on 4 panels and I also agree to use the later fall image.

Also agreeing with Todd, I like the winter image best.

Very well done Jim! I love seasonal series! I have to agree with the others on keeping it at four images.

I knew that I could count on you guys to give me the feedback I needed. I'll eliminate that earlier autumn version and stick to only four seasons. Thanks! :wavey:

So, what are you gonna do with this? Poster? Individual prints?

A good collection of seasonal images. I kind of wish you had a fall image that was taken between the two you have here - the first is well before peak color, the other well after - especially if you are going to condense the series into four total images. It's a minor nit though and otherwise I like the thought, composition and execution behind this series.

Here's a piggyback comment on what Joshua said. Because the spring and summer shots are pretty similar, maybe you could go back in the early spring and get some of the light green colors when the leaves first come out.

Somebody posted a collection a while back where they shot the flatirons on 4 days...2 equinox and 2 solstice days. Ah, it was Doug Andrews but he didn't have them displayed like you do.

I already have each one of the first three as individual 12x36 inch matted prints. (I haven't yet printed either autumn version.) What I'm hoping to do is to print the group out either separately or as one large print and put them into a 24x36 inch frame for sale. I also sell the individual 12x36 inch versions.
As for the timing of the autumn photos, that peak week was one of the warm and generally cloudless sky weeks while I was sick in bed (and the bathroom) with the stomach flu. :frown:
Certainly, I can go back again next year and try to fine-tune at least the spring and autumn versions.

The similarity of the spring and summer images doesn't bother me. Hard to tell at this size, but doesn't the spring one have a bunch of flowers in it? (or is that the summer image?) That, and how different the sky and overall mood is between the two, is differentiation enough. And yeah, it would be nice to have more vibrant leaf color in that bottom one, but that's what Photoshop's for!

Oh, and by the way, a big print incorporating all four seasons would make for one awesome white elephant print for the print swap at this year's shindig.

I have noticed that neat tree myself and had a few failed attempts at photographing it. I have to compliment you on your good eye for composition. Not to mention having such a pleasing image for each of the seasons. I can see the case for limiting the series to four photos. I think it would make an excellent poster.

I ditto what Todd said on just about everything. And especially the white elephant print swap. Excellent series and a great subject for that. Very well done!
