Base jumping
These birds are great to see, high up on the cliffs just soaring and hovering on the updrafts. The white 'blobs' in the BG are other Gannets nesting on the cliff face. The location was certainly wild & wooly at times, not for the faint hearted, with a good hike to start with.

Not Bempton BTW.

Good detail Steve and like the contrasting BG. These guys do tend to overfill the frame though. :toast:

Nice execution and a different POV .Plenty of detail and nice to see no harsh shadows across the bird .

great angle on the bird, the feathers curling up above the tail highlight the power of the updraft

I do like the bird's positioning, it does indeed look like a base jumper. An excellent shot. This can't have been easy to keep within the frame

Stunning image Steve, possibly a little big in the frame, but excellent POV and detail

Thanks everyone. Yes, a tad big in frame, just, but swopping from 500 to 300f2.8 has it drawbacks, not ideal, hence Nikons advantage with the 200-400.
