Kelp
I made a quick weekend trip to LA for our 40th High School Class reunion. Both my wife an I graduated from El Segundo High. While my wife spent the afternoon at the homecoming game and parade, I chose to explore the rocky coast of the Palos Verdes Penninsula.

I always spent my high school years on the sandy beaches of Hermosa and Manhattan and never knew about the fabulous tidepools and rocky shoreline so close to home! Discovering such "new" places is obviously one of the major highs I get from my photography addiction.

Since we limited ourselves to carry-on baggage, I left my tripod at home to avoid any TSA decision that would consider it a weapon. Well, as should be expected, I REALLY missed it when I found the best location and light just as the sun was setting.

The warm light on the kelp was enhanced by the sunset reflected off the adjoining cliffs. The handheld exposures were at 1/10 sec, ISO 800, f/16 using the Canon 70-200 f/4 IS. I'm still amazed that I was able to get anything usable shooting handheld in this light. I have no plans to print these large, but I think they are adequate for web viewing.

I like the last one! The top two had a lot of potential, but to be honest theyre just a bit too busy for me... :wavey:

Nicely done Bill! I especially like the 2nd image. Seems almost abstract to me.

Not being one familiar with oceanside living, these look either alien or fake to me. (not a reflection on your photographic skills, just so foreign-looking to this mountain lover.) That's some really wild stuff! Cool shots, all. I think I like the first color one best.

Looks like that first one was dipped in bronze. Amazing stuff Bill.

I really like the first one, and in color---nice seeing!

You must find a way to blow the first two up real big! The metallic quality to both of them is fantastic! Wonderful work, Bill! :toast:

Another vote for #1 - particularly like the gold and blue reflected in the kelp.

Really like the color version. The gold really stands out!

I love that first one, Bill. The bronze look is amazing. I like #3, but wonder if a toned version might work better.

Great abstract on the first one.
