Kingfisher at last light
I had a busy month in October working with Deer and it has been a nice change to carry on photographing Kingfishers. The sun was just setting when I took this image and the background was in shade which is why it is black. I like this image but I am not sure about it, so thought I would post it to get some feedback.

Canon 1D MK4, 500mm lens, F4, 1/640, ISO 200.

I think I like this because it is different. Dark BG and rusty chain work for me Danny. :toast:

That will do nicely my friend.

All the best from a hot and sunny Senegal

Danny, the light on the Kingfisher and the black background work very well. But, I'm just not sure about how the light falls on the chain - I think it is the lack of light on the left hand side that does not quite work for me. Andrew

Well, I can't find anything wrong with this one Danny, other than I wish it was mine
Well done.
Geoff.

Fine image of a Kingfisher, pose is perfect, however I'm not very keen on the background, partly because it gives the impression of flash and also it does not give any context to the image itself, the chains which are a nice touch, seem to indicate an urban environment.

Still far better than any Kingfisher shots I've taken.

Very high impact Danny. Superbly done.

The dramatic lighting has given a flash like appearance, which might be why you are questioning yourself about this image.

Cheers

It's a very striking image that grows on you. The one thing I would do would be to rotate it so the chain is as horizontal as possible - just to emphasise the graphic simplicity. I also wish the chain were evenly lit. (Or is the effect achieved by selective dodging?)

Hello Everyone

Thanks for your comments. I agree with the flash look, I haven't used flash and the sole lighting source is natural. The sun is just about to set and it is being filtered through some hawthorn bushes, so that's why the light is only on parts of the chain. So anyway I am still not sure but worth putting it up for some feedback.
