NOTE: Re-posting since the version I'd linked to won't show up outside that host. Also, how do you update an image attached to a post, I could only edit the text?

------------------

It's a shot from last October that I rediscovered and edited a few months ago. After unsuccessfully trying to get some late season rose shots in Corvallis I was walking back across the park and spotted this huge rollie pollie bug amongst the oak balls.

This shot was taken on a picnic table with a Canon 50mm prime, stacked macro rings, and diffused flash. I layered and masked two B&W conversion approaches to pull out more detail in the bug and nut.

Thanks for looking.

It is sci-fi.. like I'm waiting for the immature spore to release it's crab-like alien.... I like the tint of sepia in this..

Very nice photograph Andy. Transcends the 'macro bug shot' that I'd normally flip past muttering 'so what' under my breath. This one holds the interest with the fine tonality and unconventional composition. I'd love to see a bigger version.

Well seen and executed. Wish it were mine.

I definatly haven't seen anything like this. I do think it's a neat shot. I really didn't have anyidea what it was until I read your explanation.
