Young Woodpecker
This young Great Spotted Woodpecker was holding on to part of my feeding station just outside my living room window so I took a few shots through the double glazing.

Sony A350
Sigma 50-500 EX
1/200th second
f8
ISO 400
-0.3 stop exposure compensation
Centre-weighted metering
420mm

I zoomed out to 120mm to capture the whole picture.
The adult male (in the middle) was watching over his offspring while they explored my feeding station.

Hi Geoffrey,
It looks pretty damn good to me , but what are you doing zooming in to the hairs up its nose when you have a backdrop like that?? I'd kill to have that behind my feeding station instead of a builder's yard, a derelict boat and a mountain of diesel tanks!!
Honestly, I prefer the second with a slight crop off the left, but I'd be very happy with the first.

PS. I keep seeing those hill lines seperated by layers of mist and a pole covered with woodies at the front and thinking - nobody has ever posted one like that before. I shall dream of that tonight now.

Hi Geoffry,
Great shots. I agree with Eric and I also will dream of some BG like this (may be in my next life when I became a billionaire :)).

Great photo opportunities you have created. Maybe a little tight but very nice, got loads of detail and nice view of tail taking weight of the bird. :toast:

Second for me Geoff. The first has been done many times but that second image is highly original.

Hello Geoff.

Two nice images, but I have to agree with the others what a place and view you have.
