Hi folks, I haven't been out to the Craig, Colorado area in many years but may be moving out there next spring due to job transfer. Anyone familiar with the area and the photographic opportunities around? I remember the Yampa River was really beautiful in the fall.
Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

You've got the Flat Tops just to the south, Dinosaur Natl. Monument a little farther to the west and the Steamboat area to the east. You're not all that far from Wyoming, either. I'd say you'll have plenty to explore.
Yeah, I'd say there's a good amount to do out there. Dinosaur and environs are fantastic, there are places like Vermilion Basin and other bits of the Red Desert, you could explore down into the Roan Plateau country. For you alpine fixes, in addition to the Flat Tops and Mount Zirkel, you wouldn't be too far from the High Uintas. There's also a rather obscure range called the Elkheads north of Craig that could give you some interesting country to explore close to home..
Vermillion, Brown's Park NWR, the entire Dinosaur complex, southern Red Desert, Irish Canyon petroglyphs...

You'll be about 2.5 hrs. from Grand Junction as well. We just moved here in late Aug. so I've only begun to explore the area. There's the CO National Monument, the Grand Mesa, the Uncompaghre Plateau, and Moab is only another 1.5 hr. away. You've got lots of possibilities within a day's drive. If you're ever in GJ, give me a shout
