Hi everyone,

My wife and I plan to visit Oregon in late August/Early September. We will be in the Seaside area. I was wondering if anyone could give me details of any nice photo locations. I would love to get some images of American wildlife (I'm from the UK) and some sea/landscapes. You can email me if you'd prefer.

Many thanks

Here are a couple places I've reliably seen deer and elk near that part of Oregon, but late summer is usually not the peak times for some wildlife. I almost always see elk and sometimes deer at Ecola State Park in the early morning around sunrise. They are often walking around the parking area west of the main entrance. Also for elk, I've had luck viewing them at the Jewel Meadows Wildlife Area on both occasions that I've been there. Again I think early morning and evening would be the best bet, but I have been to Jewel Meadows in the middle of the day and there were probably 50 or more elk grazing with quite a few bulls with nice racks, but not the best light to photograph them. November to April is the best time to see the elk there, but I've seen large groups there outside of those months

Ecola State Park is also a great place to grab some seascapes. I'm sure some of the other photographers here can give you some more ideas as well.

I've seen tons of early morning elk at Ecola, too...

Thanks to everyone for your swift responses. For me just seeing 1 elk would be an experience

Note that here we have what some refer to as a "Mediterranean climate." This means that it's mostly rainy and overcast from, say, November through June, and then during our summer, all clouds vanish from the sky for months. No summer rain here, which means you shouldn't count on shooting outside the golden hours of early morning and the end of the day. This can be very frustrating during the hours of blasted flat light in between....or you can take lovely walks without the camera, or view it as an extreme-conditions challenge.

I love the intimate-landscape work I associate with British photographers, and also love Britain itself. (Where else could one find a "Northumbrian Riviera"?) I hope our creatures will turn out to greet you. And don't leave without a trip up the Columbia Gorge, you'll treasure it forever.

Don't you just hate it when something goes wrong with your computer? My apologies for all the replies

Just a quick follow on dumb englishman type question - Do you get Bald Eagles in Oregon?
