Agree lighting is beautiful. Well done on getting a close up of a hard to capture bird. Bracken in the FG adds a nice touch. :wavey:

Very nice but the contrast battles with the bird

will I ever get a nice shot of these?, I try often enough.Think they are very tough birds to do this well, blacks, whites ,long tail and all that. I Like the background dropping down across the frame and background colour is very nice. Lovely pose, good to see some colour in the eye, tail highlighted down the length is important to this image.I might have a go at toneing down the left of the perch just a little. :toast:

Great shot of a bird that is rarely easy to get right - especially considering the number you see around :toast:

Rarely an easy bird, great pose and I quite like the lighting.

Full of atmosphere. I loved the pose and the background. These nest in my neighbour's garden but I can't get a decent shot so far. My only suggestion would be to tone down the shiny blue shoulder a bit as it catches my eye a little. It's a lovely portrait though - can't recall a better one.

A great shot of a very difficult subject
A little contrasty but still a winner.
Well done.

A beautiful portrait Guy,

Well done for getting so close to one. Maybe tone down the the foreground bracken and the perch a bit as they fight for attention.

One of the hardest birds to get right in my opinion.
Interesting light on this one though.

Another beauty Guy. It didn't take you long, or is this just the start? A subject where you seem to have the field all to yourself these days, I don't remember seeing another on here for ages.

I like it. Nice magpie shot. Looks like a hard exposure judging by the light.
