Male Siskin in the Rain
I had set up a feeding station in Scotland and was getting a lot of these guys and also Redpolls coming. Colourful birds and great fun to do.

Canon EOS 1V, 500mm Lens, 1.4x Converter, F5.6, 1/30, Fujichrome Velvia 50 uprated to 80.

Hi Danny,

Very nice colouful image. It's maybe a little tight on the left but that lovely bird and perch soon draw your eye in to the image.

Regards

Maybe a little tight on the left but other than that a very nice image.

Potentially a nice image Danny,

I would back of on the USM as I think you have oversharpened it - it also has a very very deep saturation a touch more than velvia would normally give.

Maybe a tad oversharpened but still a very striking image Danny.

I really like the composition which shows a more artistic bent than a lot of shots that put the subject in the centre of the compostion (a habit of most birders who probably started out with a digiscope setup?). Don't fall into this habit as it isn't photographically sound for most images.

Great shot Danny. Good use of DOF. Velvia - Respect.
I find some comments strange - there are no rules in photography anymore (or so I'm told for the sake of art). Crop this shot in half down the vertical to make it square and the composition will still be good IMO (also cut and paste the RH cone to the left and the same for one of those buds! You could also try layer in a waterfall as a backdrop and a few autumnal leaves as well). Doh! You've said it's velvia, so better keep it looking like velvia, no tweaking allowed!

Thanks for your comments, I over did the sharpening but the saturation is a problem because
I think my screen wants calibrating.

Wow, what a perch and a pretty bird on it as well. I think the second shot is better.

Super, the repost is much better, the image is made for me by the bird perching on the cone.
