Hey everyone... I have been a lurker on this site for a little while now, and love the photos i've been seeing so far. Seems like a great community to be a part of, so I decided to become a member. Here's one of my more recent photos of a great sunset and Capitol Peak this past fall.

Wow! beautiful Image!

Hey Nate, good to see you here! I got your mailer the other day and was blown away by your "Dawn of Winter" photo... perhaps the most epic elk photo I've ever seen. I look forward to seeing more posts from you here!

Welcome!
And what an amazing opening image you've presented!! Your entire gallery is mighty fine, as a matter of fact.

Darn nice first image...not just nice...fantastic!! I can't wait to see more from you. Welcome aboard.

The only thing I'd say bad about this image is that the clouds are too artificially pink. Still a great shot. Your entire repertoire is pretty darned stunning, Nate. Tons of really killer images. Some of your fall images probably make those who entered the fall colors contest glad you didn't join til now!

Welcome Nate. I've been an admirer of your work since seeing "Pastel Sunset" over on deviantART. I like the early season aspen greens combined with the blue sky and pink alpenglow/clouds on this one. Hope to see more.

Welcome, Nate. A gorgeous view! I love the patches of yellow breaking up the green aspen canopy.
I really enjoyed browsing your website. You have an impressive collection of images.

Welcome Nate- I am your neighbor to the North in Silverthorne. Great capture of Capitol peak.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Todd, thanks for the honest critique. This was one of the most colorful sunsets i'd seen in a while... I actually didn't add any color to this shot whatsoever, but I did probably get a little carried away with the saturation of the raw file. I was planning on re-working it from the beginning, but there was a MONSTER of a thread on my sensor when I shot this and it was in a very unfortunate spot. haha, so basically I've been too lazy to go back and re-do it because I don't want to deal with that darn thread again!

Ditto that Dawn of Winter shot, Absolutely incredible!!!

Hi Nate-I was taken away with your Bell shots and Chimney Rock shots from deviantART awhile back. Your website is in my fave links. Glad you joined.

Nate, stunning photographs. That Dawn of Winter shot just pulled me into your beautiful site. Thanks for sharring.
I'm with Todd, the cloud saturation seems a bit too intense for my eyes. Very nice comp.

Welcome Nate. A fantastic shot of Capital Peak and I liked the rest of your images too. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

So I took the saturation down on that photo and re-posted it to my website, which changed the photo at the top of this thread... better now? thanks guys.
Posted by Todd Caudle on November 22, 2010 at 1:03 AM
It's less about the saturation and more about the hue. I would move them away from pink/magenta and more toward red to reddish-orange. As they are, they don't represent a color seen naturally in clouds. Though not as noticeable, same goes for the alpenglow on Capitol Peak.
Posted by Nate Zeman on November 22, 2010 at 1:14 AM
Well this was exactly as the scene was as I saw it... I don't usually mess around with hues. I like to keep the colors how the occurred naturally, and this definitely was the color on the clouds and the alpenglow. The clouds and mountain were bright pink, so i wouldn't want to change them to a reddish orange. None of the pink in this photo is artificial. It may be a more rare sunset color than usual but it most definitely is the colors of natural clouds and alpenglow.

Nate, for some reason your www. link doesn't work so I copy/pasted to your website and I need to tell you...this is some of the finest landscape work I've ever seen...WOW!!! That Dawn of Winter is a striking shot.
Posted by Nate Zeman on November 22, 2010 at 10:44 AM
Thanks Jack... That was a lucky morning with some very cooperative elk haha. Yeah I wasn't sure how to make my links work either... Any ideas?

Great photos on your site! For the www link to work, I think you need to make sure you include http:// before the web address.

Hi Nate! Beautiful shot of Capitol Peak. I think the top looks too dark in comparison with the aspen--the trees probably shouldnt be more luminous than the alpenglow.
Posted by Mike Dunn on November 22, 2010 at 9:05 PM
Really nice shot Nate and great collection of work on your website.
Posted by Nate Zeman on November 22, 2010 at 9:16 PM
Thanks Stan! yeah, I dunno... This is a weird shot I guess. The whole sky above me was filled with those bright pink clouds which lit the whole scene pretty evenly. I'm guessing the pink alpenglow and clouds were a result of the sun finding its way through a tiny slit in the clouds on the horizon. It was just the faintest of light and the scene was amazingly flat considering the sun was still touching the peak. The ND filter I used may have over-compensated for the sky giving it the un-natural look. I'm still mostly happy with it!

Great shot, Nate. I love the comp with those strong diagonal lines. Welcome to the group.

You've got a great body of work, Nate. It appears we've met and didn't know it! I figured it out when I saw your sunset shot of Chimney Rock in the Cimarrons as it looked awful familiar. Check it out...
We must've been shoulder to shoulder on that evening!
Posted by Nate Zeman on November 22, 2010 at 11:41 PM
haha no way thats funny... That was an unreal sunset! I remember there being one or two other guys up there that night (and one crazy dog) people always call the orange on those rocks into question on my photo, so it's nice to see another photo of that night in existence, to prove it really happened haha. Great shot! Good to officially meet you
Posted by Guy Schmickle on November 23, 2010 at 12:04 AM
Yep, that was my crazy dog!

Welcome! And a wonderful first post. I do like your version on your website of this more as the darker top isn't as noticeable. Sometimes when posting here there is an increase in sat and contrast. Outstanding collection of images on your website. Looking forward to many more posts.
