Dave Bartlett and I are back from a nice 10-day trip to New Mexico. We were at White Sands N.M. and at Bosque del Apache. We were a bit early but there were still plenty of birds. As usual, the sandhill cranes were the stars of the show.

The more I experience snow geese the more I love them. The sounds they make and the sight of them is awesome.

A strong wind from the southwest brought the geese close to the entrance road of the big pond, the one with the "flight deck." The closest birds were within ten yards making for some nice shooting opportunities.

And then they flew away. Noise and fury. Nothing compares to a "blastoff" by thousands of snow geese.

Is there a more beautiful creature on earth than the ring-necked-pheasant. Thanks Dave for allowing me to use your 200-400 lens.

On two different afternoons we observed this old boy preening himself in almost the same location. He was nice enough to ignore me while I got a couple of shots.
Thank you in advance for any comments/suggestions.

Great captures! No advice or suggestions from me. I'd be well pleased to come home with this many keepers!
It does appear that the focal point on the last shot was on the vegetation in front of the bird, though.
Speaking of focal point(s)....thanks for the distraction, Todd!

Great flight shots. According to the bird count there's only one pheasant at Bosque! Talk about a lucky moment. Good job.
