I have a couple days vacation left and would love to spend them trying to cross off another one of my "bucket list" photos of an eagle catching a fish. I was thinking of heading from Ohio to the Mississippi River during the week between Christmas and New Years. (Unfortunately I'm a CPA and taking vacation in Jan - Apr is not allowed.) From going back through old posts here and looking at the eagle count from last year, it looks to me like it would be best if I headed to Lock & Dam #18 since I'm coming a little before prime time. Alternatively I thought about starting at Lock & Dam #14 and simply heading north from there. I would appreciate any suggestions from those of you who live or frequent the area.
Thanks
Dean

Dean- I don't live there. Actually Colorado, and made the trip for Eagles last year and had great success at #14. #18 did not allow us to get very close to photograph the eagles fishing. Hope to return again this year although we made the trip in January.
Dean, it depends on what we get for weather. I live close to 18 and shoot there much of the time but it is best in Jan - Feb when it gets cold enough to lock the river up. Starting at 14 and going from there would be a good plan, and as Bob said 14 is a great place to get a fishing shot. 14 is also a place where shorter glass is not a disadvantage. Last year the river was up and down all winter and made for a crazy year one day good one place and the next some where else depending on the conditions. I have never been North of 14 but want to try this year.
