HDR Sunset
One of my early attempts at HDR.
I could have got all this with just the one shot but wanted to practice.
Taken at Southerndown on the heritage Coast in South Wales.

Sony A350
Sigma 10-20
f16
Manual focus
Various shutter speeds
Tripod
I used Photomatix software but don't ask me what I did cos I just fiddled with all the controls

Geoffrey, what I like about this image is that it has not been "overcooked" and has a realistic/natural look. Andrew

This is a great shot, but so much the better for not being obviously an HDR shot. Some of these can have the colours turn grey - if it's happened here, then its in the rocks which is a good place! The thin sliver of gold across the horizon really lifts the image. :toast:

A little bit more on your technique would be good - you say various shutter speeds, so I assume you kept the aperture constant at f16 (with nice detail in the foreground rocks), but one of your shots would have been a long exposure I assume, for the movement in the sky? Was it a panorama stitch, or several shots from the same position?

Only nit for me would be the shadow on the large rocks across the centre, but that could be acceptable for many viewers.

Love the way the foreground rocks lead you right into the image. Very nice indeed Geoffrey.

Sky looks realy good and it all moves nicely to the centre.Looks quite subtle compared to other HDR shots I have seen.

Thanks everyone

Mark, I just looked up the original RAW files and it's a 4 shot HDR taken at 1/4, 1/2, 0.8 and 1.6 seconds and run through photomatix.
Just straight shots, no stitching or anything, taken at 10mm.

Geoff.

You certainly make the most of the impressive coastline that you have in your part of the world Geoff. Another impressive image.
