Goldfinch in the snow + repost
One from the back garden today. Didn't venture far in this weather (other than a trip to buy an electric blanket). Cheaper than a man and it doesn't snore

D300 300mm f2.8 + 1.4TC f8 1/250s 1000 ISO Tripod through French doors. Slight crop for composition.

C & C welcome

I really like this maggie, I perhaps would have cropped it to make the bird more to the left and not so central..
this will make some cracking christmas cards. the goldfinch really stands out. thanks to the plane background.

The colourful bird stands out particularly well against the snow-covered setting  . Perhaps lightening the bird and the snow on the branches may be worth a try.

I think some fill light on the bird will improve this - but I love the snow-laden branches and the gorgeous colour in the background. No snow here in Southern Oxfordshire yet, just grey skies...

A mix of the two does it for me in the exposure stakes. Too central in the comp .

I bet all the snow dropped off when the bird flew away
I'm with mark.

Yes I think somewhere between the two Maggie.
Nice and different though.

Maggie

Works for me colours great.

Bright sunshine here but cold no snow, as yet. It will come soon.

I do like it! Agree I would prefer the bird a little less central, but that isn't always possible. Difficult to tell at this size but I think you may have lost detail in the bird in the repost.

Agree somewhere in between... not an easy one and looks to have been difficult to get the exposure right....

The exposure is always tricky when snow is involved, and as Phil says, somewhere in between would it.

Keep at it Maggie, at least you have some snow to play with .....

Both have the merits. I like the comp as it is, there is space to the lower left for any greeting etc. No snow here but quite cold. Makes a change from a robin in the snow. A nice twilight landscape would be nice for your next image, Maggie.
