Thanks Phil.
The Mk1 on a full-frame at 16mm can struggle a little in certain situations - just wondered how much better the Mk2 is. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Cheers,
Chris.

Hi Chris, my 17-40 is a little soft in the corners sometimes especially full frame (but is apparently as sharp as the 16-35II although reviews vary). Its going to depend on how good a copy/version of the lens you have and you may get a dodgy mark2 16-35. Before you spend any serious money I would send it in for calibration - somewhere like fixation-uk might be able to improve the quality you get. Really if your serious about wide angle glass you need to be considering the Canon TSE24mm or the Nikon 14-24 or Zeiss 21mm but these are all manual focus (some have focus confirmation on but the focusing is still down to you).
Discussion
4 repliesI'm interested to hear if anyone has experienced both the MkI and MkII versions of the Canon 16-35 zoom; is the MkII a significant step-up in quality?
Before all you Nikon users tell me how good the Nikkor 12-24 is, I know already.
Cheers,
Chris
