Not sure if this has been an issue for anyone here (hasn't been a problem for me), but Canon is offering an upgrade service for the mode dial on the 5D2 and 7D.

I am so glad that thing doesn't lock, that would drive me nuts. I use AV, M, C1, C2 and C3 all the time switching back and forth on my 5D2, they can keep their lock!

Oh awesome, I've been waiting for a reason to give Canon another $100 for something they should have added in the first place!

Seriously though, I can count on one hand the # of times the dial has been accidentally switched. Just not a big deal to me. Wonder if the 5D3 will incorporate this fancy, $100 lock?

Agree. No need for lock.

I will echo John and Bret on this one!

How odd...
Many years ago, the Canon A2/A2E had a lock mechanism on the mode dial and people kept breaking them, causing the dials to spin freely (including yours truly). Now they want to charge people $100 to add a lock. Go figure.

I guess I'm the odd man out here as this is one thing on my 7D that I've had multiple problems with...guess canon will get their $100 out of me
