Some of you may have noticed the new link at the top of the UKNP page... it leads in to the new UKNP image critique gallery. We'd like you all to begin to use it for posting images for critque, and we'll gradually transition this forum over to being a discussion only forum. The new gallery is similar to the main NPN galleries in that it allows you to post a secondary image which is larger in pixel size, and in Kb... hopefully that'll keep a few of you that've been having problems down-rez'ing your images a bit happier
This is the first in a series of changes we'll be making to the UKNP forum in the next few months...
Enjoy

Looks good. I like the thumbnails. Really missed it on UKNP. Will upload an image soon.
A great addition to the site. The larger version is a very welcome addition, as are the thumbnail's.

With the new UKNP IC Gallery, you now also have this option.

The new gallery looks fine, and having thumbnails is a big improvement. One question though. Several of us on UKNP load our images both onto the old UKNP forum and also on to the Fauna or Avian galleries, according to subject. For the most part we tend to reach a different audience by doing this.
Will we be able to continue doing this? Especially bearing in mind that we could end up loading four different versions of the same picture if we opt for both sizes on two galleries!
No different to before, other than we're now aiming to split the UKNP discussion and images into two separate streams - one that will effectively become a 'UKNP General Discussion', and another that will become 'UKNP Image Critque'.
You can still continue to post to any of the galleries and you'll still reach the different viewpoints/audience. You still have the same image posting 'allowances' per gallery. Both images will now appear in the 'all photos' gallery/photostream - the UKNP ones didn't before. (If you want to tell which is which...One will appear as being in the 'Avian'/'Fauna' (etc) gallery, and the other as being 'UKNP Regional')
(The images for NPN and UKNP forums have always been separate uploads, so in effect there's only one additional image being uploaded now - I don't think there's a way to share a single upload 'set' as the url for the uploaded image isn't shown anywhere - unless you want to wade into the browser and pull out the image url and use that in your 2nd post!!)

Hello Nick
Thats great news that you have done this change. It is fantastic as well to be able to post a larger version. I still see people are posting on the other side which I find odd because it will be so much better to see a thumbnail. I have just posted one to try it out.
Cheers
Danny

The "UKNP Forum" link in the title bar from the new IC page (to get back to this forum) takes me to a blank page (it says 25 messages at the bottom, but none are viewable) - the link needs updating - possibly its directing to the old forum pages
thanks for noting that - I've passed it back to Jim to update that link. Until it's fixed, you should be able to use the other link on the right hand side of the page next to the gallery selection drop down box.

Am I correct in assuming that images posted to the **NEW** UKNP Image Critique Gallery are still limited to 720px? If so, what's the point? (Not trying to be funny or a smarta***). I appreciate you can link to a larger image, but you could do that before, couldn't you?
Also, the image title box only seems to accept a relatively small number of characters (approx 25). You certainly couldn't post some longer vernacular and scientific names as part of the title. Any chance of getting this changed?

Is everyone posting in the new forum now, just wondering as is there any point posting in this now
Yes, like the rest of NPN, you're still limited to 720px for the image that appears in the main post - that makes sure it fits in most people's browser windows. The point is to bring us back up to date with the rest of NPN, and to allow us to show thumbnails, and to include larger versions when uploading - the galleries are the same as are used in the main NPN Avian/Landscape etc. You couldn't upload a larger version before - unless you did it via the main forums and copied/pasted the link from there.
I'll check with Jim re. the title restriction.. but I'm guessing it's restricted to that for the formating for the thumbnail view.
Karen - post discussion topics in this forum, and images for critique in the other one.
