I recently had the pleasure of loaning the 14-24 and 16-35 VR whilst on a trip to Hawaii and, having used the two for the week I was on Maui I thought I'd write up on how I found these two lenses.

It's quite long and illustrated with images taken with the lenses on the trip, if anyone is in the market for either lens it might help you one way or another...?!

Richard, THANKS for this well done review! I'm honestly considering the 14-24mm/2.8 for my 5D Mark II, The images I took of the Milky Way the other night in NE Arizona (in Man & Nature Gallery) showed sharp centers, but the edges from my Canon 16-35mm/2.8 were atrocious (they always are, that's just Canon wides). I've heard of others using a 5D2 with the Nikon lens and adapter, apparently it works (manual focus is no prob) but even more so, the edge quality seems to be quite superior with the Nikon. Your review confirmed the image quality at the edges, so thanks!

I may shift towards the 17mm TSE, but I'm not ruling out the Nikon. Anyone else using the 14-24mm on a FF Canon body out there?

Thanks again Richard!
Paulie

Got my answer, Richard, Marc Adamus uses the 5D2 & 14-24mm combo, works well with the right adapter which he found. The reviews of that 14-24mm are nuts, this Canon 16-35 needs to go. Ruined the edges of my Milky Way shots, lol!

I went with the Nikon16-35 f4 VR for it's ability to take filters as well as I tested it quite extensively against my old Nikon 17-35 f2.8 The 16-35 was much better in the corners with less CA than the 17-35. I don't know if it was the nano-coating or what, but the 16-35 to my eyes seemed to have a little something extra I couldn't quite put my finger on.

I know what you mean about that "something extra", I see it in Marc Adamus' latest images with the 14-24mm adapted to his 5D Mark II. Canon needs to take some lessons frok Nikon in the super-wide zoom department.

Hey, neat signature!

I am lucky enough to have them both, I only bought the 16-35 as the 14-24 would not fit in my underwater housing, The 16-35 has been a real surprise and i tend to use it more than the 14-24 for the reasons you mention, Both great lenses and you would not be unhappy with either

What is the exact name of the adapter to fit a 16-35 nikon to the 5 d mark 2
