Ruin With A View
These seldom visited Sinagua ruins are located in a remote section of Sycamore Canyon, northwest of Sedona. I went backpacking in this canyon about a week ago and these ruins were on my itinerary. Unfortunately, lousy weather cut the trip short and I didn't make it there. Thus, I did a little research and discovered that I could drive to a trailhead located less than a mile from their location. Of course, the drive was no walk in the park. While these ruins are located approximately 25 miles as the crow flies from my house, it took about three hours to get there on bone-jarring backroads. The payoff was worth it though. These ruins rate right up there with False Kiva IMO for their scenic surroundings. Unfortunately, this was the only decent shot I got before the light went flat for the remainder of the evening (and the following morning). A return visit will definitely be in order.

If you only got one shot and this is the shot, then one shot is plenty!

Love the composition and color. I will have to put this location on my next trip down to the Sedona area!

Location, location, location.
I'd love to see more of this scene. If you return, you might consider an abbreviated panoramic view?

This looks like an awesome location. Like John, I'm curious to see more of the ruin especially on the lower left but I wouldn't want to see less of those green canyons in the distance. Spectacular!

Wonderful! I'm looking forward to your next visit.

Thanks everyone! I definitely would have liked to fit a little more of the left side ruins into this scene, but this was shot at 17mm (the widest I can go on my 5D2)) as it was. Next time I may play around with a pano, but I fear that without the proper equipment (nodal slide, etc.) parallax issues will rear their ugly head. Still worth a try though.

Great stuff. Count me in for a tank of gas (and a new shock or two) next time you are heading down.

Beautiful shot and an intriguing looking spot to spend some time considering the past and eternity to come.

Yet another location to add to my September trip to Sedona. I may have to hire Guy to drive me there. Or at least ply him with adult beverages to get the directions.
