My very own Waxwing
Last week I thought I saw a Waxwing in a tree at the bottom of the garden, by the time I got my bins it had vanished. The last couple of days one has appeared and today when coming home after taking the dog for a walk there were around 11 or 12 of them in the tree. Later on there were around 25 - 30.

Not easy to get a shot as there was always a branch twig etc in the way, this is my best effort so far. I do hope they come back tomorrow.

D700
200-400 with 1.7 TC handheld
1/640 sec at f7.1 ISO 800
cropped to square to remove twigs etc etc.

Hi Paul not sure what you mean by over cooked. It was at taken 3.49 just as the sun was going down with direct front lighting.

Hi Paul,

Great image. I would imagine trying to get a clear shot was nigh on impossible at times. But you did well here. I love the warm light on the front of the bird.

Great Stuff :toast: :toast: :toast:

Geoff..........you have Waxwings in Wales they were quite a few in St Isan Road Heath in Cardiff, 20 reorted yesterday in Bridgend near an ATS depot.

I know how frustrating it must be for you. So many birds coming into your garden and not being able to get positioned for clear shot. I would have the same trouble in my garden (if they deigned to visit me)

I think you have caught the eye very nicely and the blue sky sets the image off well.

Nicely captured Ian! A treat to see, I must admit I never new we had any in Wales let alone Bridgend!!! . Perhaps a little too much space at the top Ian?

Lovely light however the comp looks a little awkward . These can be a bugger to get right when they hit the trees though.
There is a dust bunny just above the birds head this end ,
