Here's another scammer. Received this today 12-08-10. You would think someone from England would know the English language. Do not reply to these kind of mailings as I am sure you will be sorry!
Here it is:
I am Frodo Davies from 49 Doughty St London. I am a wood carver, I would be coming to u.s.a to announce my sculptures for sales on 14th of January, kindly let me know how much you charge for taken picture for me while I am on the move for the sculptures sales announcement . please give me your zip code so I can locate an hotel near to you and also your price for the service to be rendered.
I would look forward to read from you soon
Frodo

It does make me curious as to what the next step would be if you responded. How's he going to finagle that into asking for money or personal information?

He really needs your zip code to make sure you're not from the land of Mordor and working with Sauron. And "doughty," by the way, means "marked by stouthearted courage."
hahahahaha! Don't know what happens next! Certainly he would be asking for more info. I get these from scammers about 4 or 5 times a year. What is happening always changes, but none of them make any sense for what they want. Like he is coming to America, but will come to wherever I am....right.............
And like he is such a great sculpturist, that he has no images of his own already from where he lives????
Scam scam scam!
Hmmmm....I AM from the land of Morder and Sauron is my brother! That makes a difference? HA! Love you guys!
Noticed that the scammer's email did not post. Would type it out, but already deleted it. Would have been fun to inundate this scammer with emails!

Troup - I have read stories of people spending considerable time pretending to be interested and inundating the scammers just to try to annoy them (and have fun). Seems like a good use of fake addresses and email addresses.

I recieved the same exact e-mail. Ron

My guess is that if you reply at some point he will ask for some money to overcome some "temporary" financial hurdle that he has trying to make it fo yuor location (oh no...ive lost my passport...)
We get them at the rate of 2 or 3 a week, always for portraiture or weddings. I've always assumed our name has been harvested from the WPPI or PPI member lists because of that. I wonder how they plugged into people here?
The very first one we ever received, my wife responded as she would to any prospective client. We have clients all over the country, and it's not unusual to get referrals. She had several exchanges with the clown, and things kept getting weirder and weirder. He never did get around to asking for money before she terminated, but perhaps she just quit too soon. It was hard to tell just what in the world they were trying to pull, but you could tell they thought they were setting us up for something.
A friend of mine has ginned up a very official notice that says something to the effect that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation Internet Fraud Division is monitoring this communication. He appends it to an innocuous response to the query, and so far none of the new "clients" has cared to further the relationship.
