Hi all

Thinking of buying Sigma 150mm 2.8mm macro for my d300, it's to replace my nikon 105mm macro VR, whilst I like this lens it has no tripod mounting and I feel this unbalances it and leads to a bit of camera shake.

What I would like to know how sharp is the sigma is it as sharp as my nikon? Has anybody got any different ideas what i could do? I nearly always manual focus i macro work so not bothered about autofocus and the VR is neither here nor thee as it does not work at 1:1

All thoughts appreciated

Hi Shaun it's sharper than the nikkor 105 vr & I feel a much better all round lens.

I've not used the Nikon 105 VR, but I am very happy with my D300/150mm Sigma combination. Only thing I have against the lens is that it is relatively bulky and heavy - but you can compare size and weight against the nikon easily enough.

The Sigma 180mm macro is worth a look, I've seen some great reviews on it.

I'm expecting a Nikon 70-200 vr2 f2.8 lens tomorrow and I'm considering trying it with extension tubes for macro work, did a google search and people say it's a good combo and will be a lot lighter than carrying 2 lenses around.
Anyone tried this?

Geoff.

Shaun I also use the Sigma 150mm with my D300 and am very happy with it. As David says it is a fairly weighty lens though.
