Wake up & look outside. Great, it's cold, but no snow at all. Make breakfast, feed the daughter, clean-up, dress, pack-up, and off to school.

What? How did this county last this long if you are closing school well before any snow actually arrives, and most businesses and government facilities are open for business? People in northern states must be laughing at Maryland.

That sounds like NW Florida. Last year they were forecasting snow flurries (yep, flurries) for us in Pensacola. Nothing was forecasted to stick or anything, and they cancelled school for that. The flurries came, lasted MAYBE 5 minutes. Big deal. I still can't believe they actually closed the schools for that nonsense, even here in non-snowy Florida.
We're in Annandale at the moment, and schools are letting out 2 hours early. About an inch of snow on the ground, and the temp has dropped to 18 from 20 this morning.
The conditions aren't bad for kids necessarily, until they get near traffic. Yeahgads. Talk about idiot drivers. Walking or on the bus, I think it's a good thing to keep the kids home instead and safe.

Make all the kids walk to school backwards and in bare feet.
At least that's what I tell my daughter she's going to do when she gives me a bad attitude.
Isn't that what you did when you were a kid? That's what I told our kids, anyway. And it was uphill both ways!!!!

Yep, here in the middle of Virginia, they closed our schools the night before anything fell ?? And when I finally get my son to like school, he was upset they had closed..go figure??

In NE Cincinnati they POUR salt all over the roads whenever there's a FORECAST of snow. Incredible. It is quite common to see a 2007 model car with more rust than an abandoned steel mill in Jackson, Mississippi.

Annandale Hank? As in Annandale, Virginia? That's right down the road! Doing any shooting this weekend?
And yeah, Virginia drivers are NOT good in the snow. I grew up in Pittsburgh, so don't have much trouble with it, but other people scare me sometimes. I did get a laugh a couple of years ago when I drove my Jetta down the snowy interstate past a Ford Expedition and Cadillac Escalade locked together at the grills.
Yup, right down the road. We're visiting our daughter and her family for the holidays. The bad news is we came down with colds the day after we arrived. The good news is that they should be past history by the time Christmas arrives!

Hope you and your wife feel better and get to enjoy DC/NoVa Hank (although I'm sure just being with the family is great). Merry Christmas!
Wow! What a cute kid. But you're making me feel OLD. Here's a glimpse of my 11-year old granddaughter in action.
They were supposedly shoveling the drive, but I think my wife would have preferred ice skating to this!

Those who live in Cinci don't have a clue how to drive in snow...for the most part. Just ask my youngest son. He moved there 6 years ago from MI, and having lived with snow all his life, it drove him nuts when he saw people driving 2 mph in 1 inch of snow! So what does he do? Pulls into a parking lot and starts doing donuts. People looked at him as if he was crazy!

I hate colds!!!! Bah humbug....
Then we went ice skating.
Photo was taken with an iPhone (and exposure corrected later).
