I wasn't planning on shooting the eclipse because it was supposed to be cloudy. I wandered out in my PJs at 11:30p to check things out and it was crystal clear with eclipse just beginning. 3 1/2 hours later I stumbled into bed with feet of ice (couldn't get to sleep was so cold!). I took about 69 frames and this is a quickie process job for now. Moon is just starting out of eclipse in this shot taken between 2:15 and 2:30a. It is about a 40% crop. Techs are 5D, 400 ISO, 1/2 sec, f5.6, 300mm + 1.4 TC, mirror lock up, cable release, manual focus, single exposure. Glad I stayed up

I did miss it because the sky here in Moab was 100% covered w/ clouds. This is easily the 2nd best thing to seeing it live. Outstanding photo, Pam! Thank you for posting this.

Great show Pam.

Great job Pam! It seems that f/5.6, ½ second and ISO 400-800 are the settings to use for a full eclipse. In 2008 I used f4/, ½ sec, ISO 320 which is nearly the same as you. This time I was GOING to try different ISOs up to 1250, but one of Phoenix's 3 cloudy nights per year happened to show up last night! Anyway, you have a keeper, almost worth getting frostbite over!

I missed it 'cos Bret sent those clouds thisaway.
You did an excellent job capturing this one, Pam!

Well captured Pam. There's a lot of empty black space especially on the bottom, but maybe it could be used to your advantage with a thinner crop on both sides. This might look really cool as a vertical panoramic.

Nice work, Pam. With some text at the bottom this would make a great poster.

Very nice. It was certainly worth staying up to see. I view the pictures as just a bonus.
Why were you so cold? Did you stay in your PJs?

No need. I started painting my own picture as soon as I read your post.
Excellent shot, Pam. One of the most successful single-exposure eclipse shots I've seen.
