Because of travel for Christmas, we had our own little family Christmas tonight, including gift exchange. My wife bought me an "Intous Tablet" with a pen, after researching it and finding people using it in Photoshop for photo editing.
Just got it set up, and am trying it out. Little strange when you're not used to it! Just curious...anyone else out there using a tablet like this for photo editing? Does it take a while to get used to? Advantages, disadvantages? Just looking for other people's experiences.

Hi Terry. I've been using a Wacom tablet for about six years. Currently using the Intuous 4. Yes it does take a little getting used to, but hang in there. It is well worth it. A couple of days with it and it will feel more comfortable if you are like most people. It feels much more natural for everything I do in Photoshop than a mouse. The pressure sensitivity is great as are the programmable buttons and the touch ring. I feel like I am much more precise with the tablet than any other input device.
couldn't live without my Wacom tablet!
As a matter of fact, mine has been sick for a few days and I have done no CS work at all, since it's just too hard and inaccurate without the pen (IMO).
My bet is that it will soon be indespensible for you also.
Marry Christmas!

Many years with a tablet here...wouldnt go back for anything.. I takes getting used to, though...just make yourself use it without resorting to the mouse for a couple of days and youll be fine. Joe Rogers

I agree with the other comments Terry, it takes a bit getting used to it, but once your past that the comfort and accuracy of using the pen vice a mouse is incredible. I've used mine for 3 years now and it is the best thing since sliced bread!

Hi, Terry,
I've had a Wacom tablet for 5 or 6 years and used it a LOT with my desk-to Mac for everything for which the mouse had previously served, but now that most of my computer work, including essentially all my CS5 work is done on my laptop pc , I've used it little or none for a year. It doesn't mesh well with the laptop's portability.

Terry, I went from a mouse to an Intuos-4--best move I ever made. It took a while to get acclimated, but working in Photo Shop is much easier, and much more precise.
You may want to experiment with the different settings until you find which set works best for you. It may take a little time, but you will then be able to fully realize the pen's potential.
Nice present, btw!

VERY nice present!
I was looking on Amazon at prices, and there are three sizes of Intuous 4 tablets... which size do you guys/gals use?
I went with the small size. It fits perfectly on the keyboard tray next to my keyboard. I also like this size because I don't have to make large hand movements for selecting, etc.. Also, the price for this size was good for my budget.

My wife bought me the medium size. I have my own desk I made out of oak, with a rather large keyboard/mouse tray, and it just fits. In fact, that's how my wife chose that size, in terms of how it fit on the tray.
Have played around more with it, and am starting to get used to it. Definitely a different feel than using a mouse!
