I often go to a gallery like avian and search for a specific species say a wren. This function doesn't seem to have been working for a while now. I assumed it was temporary or that someone else would comment on it. Am I using search incorrectly or is it not working? Thanks. It works fine in the porfolios.

Hmmm... I just tried it in the Avian gallery. I searched for wren and the results looked correct to me. I tried it with a couple of different keywords and they all seemed to work correctly. I'm using Safari on a Mac, just as a reference point.

I am using Internet Explorer 8 on an IBM compatible. If you search the box always comes up empty. I know there are similar problems on the website I do for work. Good results on Firefox but old out-dated information for the same page on IE8. Aren't computer programs fun?

So I just tried it with Firefox and same result. To make sure I am doing it correctly you just go to the gallery you want, say avian, and enter "wren" in search this forum box and hit go. I just did it in both the avian and fauna galleries. Tried wren in avian and bear in fauna with no results.

Both of those searches worked fine for me. I'm using Firefox 3.6.13 on Mac OS X 10.6. Maybe you need to clear your browser cache.

Sally,
One thing is for certain, you must be logged in to be able to use the search. I cleared my browser cache before testing and forgot to log back in and I get the behavior you're seeing.
If I go to the Avian gallery and enter "wren" in the search field and hit enter or click "go" I get the expected results. Same for eagle, hawk or whatever.
HOWEVER, when I typed in the word "owl" I get no results! That doesn't make sense. Even when I typed "wren" there was an image on the first line with the word "owl" in it, yet "owl" doesn't provide any results. Now, if you enter "screech owl," or "barn owl" the search works properly. Very interesting.
I expect this is a very basic search engine and it's simply using the database and only searching certain fields and/or keywords and the word "owl" must not be in there, but "barn owl" is.
But if you're not getting ANY results, then I expect you're not logged in. I would send a note to Jim if you're still having issues.

You're right. I wasn't logged in. I thought the search function would work without being logged in. I remember a discussion about search parameters having to be a certain number of letters (I thought is was 4). I will try searching logged in. I usually only log in if I am planning to post or to make comments. At home with dial-up just logging in can take a bit of time so usually don't do it just to take a look. Thanks for the comments.

Yes, the search function works if I am logged in. I just didn't realize you had to log in to use it. Thanks again all.

And yes, you must be logged in!
