Just wondering what are the popular winter locations on MWNP forum. Any comments?

My favorite location is the Apostle Islands Ice Caves. The ice caves are one of the premier winter destinations in the upper Midwest. Weather permitting the caves usually open in February. The National Park Service maintains a hotline to call for ice conditions. It's on my speed dial.

Sax Zim bog of Northern Minnesota... Hawk Owls, Boreal Chickadees and with a little luck a Great Grey.

I second Phil's recommendation. The ice caves are fantastic, but as of yet inaccessible. Need a little more sub zero weather to harder the watery trail to the caves.

More than any other season I find that winter is more about conditions (fresh snow, fog, etc) than about location. However, my favorite spots in central Indiana in winter are Turkey Run and Shades State Parks.
