Highways out of Flagstaff reopened after our snowstorm, so I headed to the Canyon to catch the last sunset of the year with fresh snow. The road to Hermits Rest was still closed, so hung around Yavapai Point for a cold New Years Evening. I was hoping for more snow on the rim and the trees, but the high winds kept them groomed.
Happy New Year to y'all.

#2 Year's final light on Isis Temple.

#3 Dusk looking towards Desert View.
Initially wondered if the closest right wall was overbearing, but figured it gave the image a better near/far aspect.
Nice Doug
I particularly like #3 with the earth shadow beginning to show.

A fine collection, Doug!
I'm somewhat surprised at the lack of snow seeing that the road was closed for awhile.
I also like #3 the best because of the post sunset light and the layered composition. The blue channel is pretty clipped though (indicating a color cast, as nothing is overexposed).
Try lifting up the middle of the Curve in the Red channel and see what you think.

I really like 'em all, but I'm shocked at how little snow is present. Makes me thankful I didn't follow my original plan to push on to the canyon for the holiday. Apparently Canyonlands and Arches are the parks that got the benefit of this storm.

Sweet shots Doug! I also like three the best. I like the thin layer of snow and red rocks showing in between.
#3 is fantastic! YOu might try warming up 1&2 a bit--a bit too much blue for that sun angle i think. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the feedback. Increased the temperature of all three images and it helped with cast to the snow and the foreground rimrock in 1&3 the most.
The heavy winds during the storm kept the very edge clear of snow. 20 yards away from the rim into the trees there was 12" on the ground.
Great series...#3, #1, then #2 for me. What a beautiful spot.

Like the little bit of snow in the last image. Nice color as well.

Excellent work Doug. I'd maybe bump the contrast on the first one a little bit (to match the level on the second image). I must've been standing right next to you on that last shot as I spent that evening on and around Yavapai Point as well. It sure was cold....especially the following morning!

Guy,
Thanks on the contrast observation. At dusk at the overlook, a taller person needing to go to Vegas was standing next to me. I was wearing a green down parka.
