If life gives you lemons...
...keep them. Hey, FREE LEMONS!

Long story short: I'm pretty sure I missed out on a fog-filled Castle Valley near Moab on Saturday, so I headed straight there for sunrise Sunday. No fog. I figured I'd head up the Colorado River along Hwy-128 and just see what Ma Nature had to offer for sunrise. Didn't get very far. When the silhouette of Fisher Towers came into view and the crescent moon was not too far away, I just had to find a spot along the road where the two elements lined up. This is one of a few comps. The sky color got better later, but by then the moon was a little higher over the towers than I had wanted. I could bring the two elements closer together by driving up the road to the Towers' trailhead, but then I had to shoot wider, rendering a smaller crescent than this one shot at near 400mm. What can't be seen in this jpeg, but is strongly hinted at in the larger file is a good example of Earthshine lighting up the dark side of the moon.

Just for fun, check out how closely the curves histogram mimics the silhouette of the towers. Heck of a coincidence!

Got lots more to post from the trip, will do so starting 24 hours from now.

Simple, buy a pint of Wheat and drop 'er in.
This is real beautiful simplicity, Todd--i love it!!
Does the coincidence in the histogram have anything to do with 2012 or the birds dying in Arkansas by any chance??

This is a beautiful shot. Love the color. Too bad you lose the scale of the Fisher Towers with that stunning crescent moon. Love the silouette though.

The crescent moon makes this simple yet catching image. Lots of character shown on the tower edges helps too.

The more I look at this image, the more I think it's one of the coolest moon images I've seen. You should submit this to the astronomy picture of the day.
