......the Vanguard SBH-300 ballhead! I checked it out last Friday and in my humble opinion, it's pretty nice. It seems to be very well built and it's actions extremely smooth. The QR plate holds my large lenses tight and has a double safety locking system. I am happy! Thanks again for your suggestions last week.

Glad you found something you like, Pam. I've got the dilemma of having a ballhead I like (BH-3), but needing to replace my tripod. My Manfrotto Carbon One broke down for the umpteenth time (not its fault, I put it through Hell), and I've been schlepping my big, heavy, aluminum Bogen tripod around. That's fine for winter shooting from the car, but it ain't gonna work when I start photo-hiking this spring.

Great news for you Pam. Again, kudos for braving the wilds of I-25 to make the trip up to PM. At the risk of hijacking the thread, Todd, I'm having some issues with my Carbon One too. What kind of problems did yours have?

Congrats Pam!!! I am glad you found one you like. Todd, I followed Mr. Bacon's suggestion and got an Induro Carbon fiber tripod. I bought it from KEH as a demo for $150. It is awesome! comparable to the $500+ gitzos in every way but price. Best of all it only weights 2lbs.
