Whooooooshhhh!
is what Old Faithful sounds like on a quiet evening with starlight!

Taken at 9PM on Oct 5. 17 seconds, ISO3200, 1DsIII, 17-40, f4

Hey Don,

This is a very compelling image for many reasons. For me, it took just a second more to register what I am seeing - a really good thing with photography because it forces the viewer to look at the image longer, and think about it. Your perspective on this commonly photographed area is engaging because its rarely done in this manner. 17 seconds was enough time to add dramatic effects to the steam plume - but what I really enjoy about this are the numerous geysers in the distance that are all steaming away. Cool stuff!

In addition to what Chris said, I also really like the stars.

Way cool shot. Very original.

This is a beauty, Don! That motion-blurred plume surrounded by stars: wow!

Very creative and unusual image.

Yeah, what Chris and the others said.
I too like the background plumes of steam. Stars are a bit faint, but they probably show up real well in a larger verion.

What a beautiful combo of elements. Excellent work with the star exposure and Old Faithful at the same time! And unique to boot.

Very nice work. There are so many interesting things going on. The chaos in the plume is an interesting contrast with the peace and tranquility in the stars.

I looked at this before and didn't have time to comment...glad I waited because after reading Christophers comments I had not noticed the other geysers on the BR. This is a really well composed shot and way different than any I've ever seen of Old Faithful...that's what makes it special. So, Don, if you were to bring this to the white elelphant, I would want to be the last in line so I could steal it and hang it on my wall!! hint, hint!

OOOps, just check the shindig posts and it says you aren't coming. I'll send you my address and you can just ship it to me!!

Very cool image, Don. I love the otherworldly feel. I was all hung up on the stars until I noticed the other geysers. It must have been fun being out there shooting this.

Interesting, Don--really like the stars. I think it could use a slight boost in levels/contrast.

I always like different takes on otherwise "iconic" photos. Well done.

Cool shot, Don! One more reason to get up to Yellowstone during the winter. I love everything about this one.

Don this is awesome. I too like the little plumes of steam coming from the smaller geysers. Never ever did I think of doing this. Very creative and nice shot!!
