Hello.
In February I will go to Spain and Gallocanta. My main reason are the Cranes. I would like to hear form someone who have been there. How near the birds are there possible to come. Is it long enough with a Canon 7d + EF 300mm 2.8 + 1.4 conv?
Are there several good places around the lake, or are one location the best?
I look forward to here from you.

Oyvind, well I wasn't aware of the cranes at Gallocanta but the web has plenty of information on them. I haven't been there (live in Scotland now) but from my experiences in the US at Bosque del Apache I'd recommend a long lens, 500mm or more would be nice. They are big birds so that makes it easier. I'd also try asking the UKNP forum for advice if you haven't already.
On the other hand big flocks of birds can be filmed artistically with a wide angle lens too!
Now I wonder when I can get to Gallocanta too!

Hello Bill. Thank you for responding. I have surfed a lot and have quite a good idea of how the area around the Laguna del Gallocanta are. I have also been contacted by a photographer who lives there. So I think I have all under controll 3 weeks before we leave. I agree with you, its always better the longer the lenses are. But the budget does not say that I can buy a 500mm at this moment. I guess that the experience at the site with so many cranes will be great anyway.
