Been meaning to visit the punch bowls (popular summer swimming spot near Garden of Gods) for a while--but in summer the required hiking reservations are filled 2 months in advance. Of course, no one wants to go there in January so you can pick your day! I imagine its a straight-forward hike in summer, but now its a bit tricky since you have to go straight up the frrozen creek to get to them--i definitely can see why Glen Eyrie makes you sign a liability form! Here's Dorothy Falls. (B&W soon on ESS)

Didnt really have time for shots of the red rock, but from what i could see, aside from the absence of Pikes Peak, this place has way more potential than Garden of Gods for red rock photos! (any takers on a group NPN rental for sunrise?)

This is the only punch bowl (the bottom most one) that still had any water flowing.

On my way out, i saw some Bighorns on the cliffs above. Thats all for now!

Nice stuff (as always) Stan.
There is a way into that area from public lands that doesn't require reservations, etc. It's a bit of a longer hike, but (IMHO) more scenic, too. E-mail me if you want details.

#3 is just awful Stan, you should just throw it away and give it too me!!!!

Looks like you had a real fine trip.
Not too fond of #2, but the rest are really good. I might prefer images from the punch bowl more in the winter than what could be captured in the summer.
The b&w shot of the sheep is simply excellent!

#3 is greeeaaattt!! #1 is very nice too. The b&w's don't quite work for me w/ the white skies.... I was planning to head up here last summer but didn't find the time. Glad to know about the 2 months needed for a reservation to punch bowl. I first found out about this area because my great-great-grandfather took a lot of photos here.

Excellent photos, Stan. I used to sneak in there with many friends when I was a young stoner. Even have a shot of about 10-12 of us all gathered in front of that frozen waterfall one Christmas Day. We only got caught once, and were escorted to the front gate, from where we had to walk back around to our car in the Garden parking lot. I had no idea they had a permit system for access nowadays.
Your first shot is amazing, that third one is perhaps my favorite, although it should probably come with a parental advisory.

Nice color shots Stan! The second doesn't do much for me but the sheep are cool. I can see where this would've been a hangout for "mind expansion"!
#1 is really nice, and #3 is way cool! Maybe if you had a dark border around #2 to separate it from the white background here, it would stand out a little more. Same on the sheep shot, which is also very nice.

I cant imagine why, Todd--afraid some kid will fall in through the ice?
Im not a big fan of 2 either--was just showing some of the potential here with cool formations--im definitely gonna go back and try my luck with the rocks.

For what it's worth (for anyone who wants to visit the punch bowls), the punch bowls and waterfall are on public property, and there is no need for a permit to visit them IF you enter from public lands. However, if you want to enter from the bottom (Glen Eyrie) you need their permission (and their permit) to hike on their private property to get there. It all depends on which way you approach from...

Wonderful work as always, Stan. The bit of light on the cliff, just below the tree in #1 really makes this image for me. 1, 3, and 4 are really wonderful, but I also think you're on to something with #2. I like your comp, and the processing on the rocks, but I don't care for the sky. Certainly a place to go back to. "any takers on a group NPN rental for sunrise?"
If you're serious, count me in, but it would have to be on a weekend due to my schedule.

Really like the blue in the punch bowl image. Great details in the ice in the first image.

Glen Eyrie doesn't allow hikers on their property during weekends due to events they have there every weekend (parking is VERY limited).

Nice work Stan! I really like #3 and #4. #3 being my favorite with all that deep blue!
The 1st and 3rd shots are great! I really like the color and contrast. I definitely want to go check that place out now; I've got micro-crampons so ice walking isn't a big deal.
