It's that time of year again--time to email me your suggestions for new Weekly Themes for the Challenge Gallery that I moderate. If you want your theme suggestion to be considered for the next few months worth of themes, please get me your suggestion (if you have multiple ideas, try to limit to your top two or three best ideas) no later than next Wednesday, January 19. If your theme is picked for inclusion, you will win an all expense trip to Aruba. Actually, all you get is my heart-felt gratitude, and immortal fame in the archives of themes.
Thanks in advance!!

I'll contribute my 2-cents, Stan.
How about Silhouettes?

Have you been talking to Sandy, Carol? Sorry, she beat you to that idea by one day But it's a good one

how about predominant colors?
The image has to be predominatly BLUES, or RED, or YELLOWS, etc. GREENS would be easy .
Sandy
PS Great minds think alike -
Carol and I came up with "silhouettes" independently! But I'll share the winner's trip!

We had a RGB/RYB theme once before--but maybe we could have an all blue theme--dont think thats been done before (and i like the blues ) or maybe a CMYK theme

The Aruba trip sounds good since the CTS-V Coupe is already taken.

How 'bout "Sands of Time" .... beaches, dunes, deserts, pseudo sand (something that looks like sand but may not be).......?
1) My backyard - a photograph taken, literally or figuratively, in the photographer's backyard.
2) HDR - combine at least 2 images to produce a composite of a wide dynamic range scene.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks, keep em coming!

Hi Stan - Here's my suggestion:
"Caught by Surprise" Any photo taken on the spur of the moment because you were caught off guard.
Thanks for being such a great moderator

How about: "Do you know this one?" where the title of the picture is a well-known song and the picture depicts the title, though not necessarily the song.

I like that idea, Tony, almost a 'charades' version of the Weekly Challenge...

In Man and Nature there are two posts of birds on or near signs, and someone mentioned that might be a good theme for the WC (could be any kind of wildlife).

"Revealing." I don't think anything like this has been done on this site - at least not as a global challenge. The challenge is to "reveal" your ORIGINAL FILE. You post your final result that you've processed and presented. Then you post what you started with! The actually challenge is to show or discuss what you did to get your final result.
Maybe a couple of added images to show the stages, or a screenshot of your layers palette and/or a brief discussion on the various adjustments you made.
Huge upside is a great opportunity for folks to learn some new processing techniques or just to see and understand what work does - or doesn't go in to producing the work and art that we do.
Downside.... how many would actually "reveal" their methods or reveal how much was actually changed - or perhaps how little.
An alternate title theme could be "Before and After."
I'm not sure if that follows the purpose of the WC, but thought I would toss out something outside the box. Interesting?

A couple of suggestions, Stan:
Roads - either actual or virtual roads, paths or trails
Out of Context - a photo with one or more elements seriously out of context; an element that doesn't belong

Thanks, folks!
Lon--actually someone emailed me that exact idea, and i kind of shot it down--dont really
see it as fitting the gallery idea, and not sure how the 'winner' would be picked. But since a couple people have suggested it, ill run it by Jim and see what he thinks-

Thanks Stan - I see and agree with the constraints you mentioned. Didn't think about picking a winner. Perhaps there is another Gallery or location where we could start something like this. Actually, quite inspired by your recent Tetons processing exercise.
"[i]Perhaps there is another Gallery or location where we could start something like this.[i]"
I really like the idea of posting the raw image and the processed image together. It would be a great learning tool, in my opinion.
Such images could be posted to the Anonymous Gallery. If they were posted there, the photographer could add their name to the post, if they so choose.
Just a thought.

Stan, they may have been done, but here's several suggestions: "From the parking lot" - an image taken from a parking lot/area or within a few feet thereof; "Drive by Shooting" - an image taken from a road or roadside; "Local Icon" - a image taken of a very popular or heavily photographed local scene or subject that does not have national recognition or status as a photo icon; "City Limits" - images of nature or with nature as the dominant theme but taken within a municipality or metropolitan area (could be futher broken down by category - e.g., City Wildlife (non-captive), Cityscapes, etc.). I won't be offended if none are used; I don't think I could handle immortal fame anyway.

May have been done many times over (unfortunately, I didn't follow the WC in 2010!)...I thought of Microscapes of some sort - sort of like that Nat Geo article about what's in 2 sq feet (or however much it was!). Not necessarily 'macro' but little 'scapes' in the big world!

Thanks for all the great suggestions folks! You can keep sending me ideas, but any new ones after now will probably not get posted til the Spring.
