Early Morning Goldfinch
I know this will not appeal to everyone (if anyone!) but I would be grateful for any comments.
This is the second frame taken with a new 200-400 VR and I would like to thank Rene de Heer for recommending this lens when I raised a question re VR/IS on this forum a few months back. I love it!!!
Stats - D2X, lens as above with 1.4TC. 500@f5.6 ISO 200. WB set at cloudy to give warmer tone.
The wife likes the picture so I have already justified the new lens! (Okay, so I have a looooong way to go to do that!)

Thanks for looking.

Hi Roy. Doesn't really work for me. :frown: I'm a bit of a purist and don't always see the more creative arty shots that a lot of people seem to enjoy. Bit too dark on the top of the head. Sorry, but I thought I'd let you know my opinion. Regards, Graeme

It`s certainly different! I like the diagonal of the perch disappearing into the murky background. Conventionalists might suggest a touch of fill-flash; just enough to allow the darker parts of the bird to stand out from the dark background. I quite like it as posted, though - in fact, the more I look at it, the more I like it!

Roy,

I agree it's different! My initial reaction is that I don't hate it but feel that it is slightly too dark for me. If it was a little bit brighter I feel that it would have more impact without losing the mystique.

Thanks for posting something different though

Nice and atmospheric. I like it. Could maybe do with more contrast (about 10%). Ignore those conventionalists who don't like 'hot' whites - bright whites aren't so bad and sometimes give a picture more bite.
