Catching Wind
Living between Golden and Boulder in W. Arvada, I don't normally venture out when the wind is blowing - multiply Denver wind x5. Today, I thought why not? because the sky looked promising. I could barely hold onto my car door on Plainview Road and would estimate the gusts in excess of 65 mph.

I made a few images with pressure on the camera and burying the tripod legs as deep as they would go in the snow. I also used the lowest ISO for motion and I'm surprised that a lot of the grass is sharp. I wasn't sure if I'd get anything sharp and tried to catch the little ground blizzards. Hot coffee tasted great when I jumped back in the rig!

Dave, that was well worth the effort. Nice sky and the grass DOES look good.

This is quite beautiful Dave and illustrates my absolute LEAST favorite weather condition! Kudos for braving this.

Nice colors and banding in the clouds above the ridgeline. The wind is pretty evident in the photo. Glad you did not have your door get ripped off and fly off into the foreground.

Dave---Crazyyyy!! The photo is great! and looks like the effort paid off for you.

Excellent shot!
Rod and I were at Sprague Lake shooting Hallett Peak...we were fighting to stand up.
Not fun...but the images were worth the effort. Sometimes bad weather can yield some of the best images.

You certainly captured the feeling well.
I need some hot chocolate to warm up now.

You caught some great light, Dave. Like Pam, wind is also my least favorite natural phenomenon so kudos to you for enduring it, it was definitely worth it.

Great title, Dave. Kudos for being tough enough to go out in these conditions. I love those clouds! I'm tempted to crop it to more of a pano format to lose some foreground as it puts more attention on the blowing snow.

Cool, Dave, great catch!

I'm sure glad that someone out there says, "Why not?".
You definitely earned this one. I really like the contrasts present here...red & blue, calm & blustery, clouds angled to the right while grasses bend to the left.

I am sure a large print would really show this off well. Excellent dedication and the shot is just as impressive. I hate the wind! But it does make for interesting shots, no doubt. Like this one. Great color in both the sky and foreground, and it's good to have some elements sharp as you have done here. It also has a nice contra flow as John points out. Way to man up!

Holy Toledo, that is amazing, brother! The disparate color palettes between land and sky are very interesting. Looks c-c-c-colder than sh*t.

You can almost feel the wind and cold with the snow blowing across the image. I also like the contrasting warmth in the sky. Kudos for going out in that!

Thanks for your kind comments ~ somethimes things feel pretty stale and I need to mix it up, try a bunch of new stuff. Working in wind is a good start.
