I am in the process of converting some of my floral images into black and white. I would like to print them. I have a Canon Pixma 9000 and use Canon paper. On my color prints I use a semi-gloss paper. Would there be any benefit in using Pro Platinum (gloss) rather than a semi-gloss?

Thank you.

Papers are so subjective that until you look at prints on both papers side by side, you can't really say. All papers have different surfaces, slightly different tones, hold ink a little differently, different gloss affects, etc and all those variables come down to personal preference. Can you get a sample package of the Pro Platinum to give it a try?

Floyd,

The look of a particular paper is very subjective, and may depend upon not only upon the tonal relationships but also the subject of the photograph. My suggestion is to make proof prints of the same image on each paper and then evaluate them.

Also, don't rule out matte papers for B&W as they can look absolutely stunning, with very rich blacks and creamy whites.

Be sure you have good paper profiles for all the papers you plan to use.
