The weather did not quite cooperate with my plans to go shoot outdoors this weekend, so I found myself inside and quite bored, which is a bad combination. I dusted off my Strobist gear and began to terrorize around my house for ideas. Some might think that I need a hobby, but then wouldn't that just be a hobby away from a hobby? Oh, and let me tell you food coloring in concentrate form is not something you want to spill anywhere!
A different project shot and the details behind the setup can be found on my blog:

Wow. I hope that I never get that bored! Have you tried smoke photos? I think that's even more fun, until the smoke alarms interrupt everything...

Outstanding process and results, Koveh! Glass is so tough to get right, but you obviously knew how to do it. Very inventive stuff.

Really interesting, Koveh! Great way to spend an overcast day.
The rims of the glasses look like halos here, as the sides of the glass are almost invisible.

This would do any commercial photographer proud...good lighting technique.Did you use black plex for the base? If you had brought in a large black card from the right or left parallel with the glasses it would have given you a nice dark line on the subject and given a little more seperation.

Jim, yeah I have done some messing around with smoke shots as well. They are fun as well, but once you have done them you don't have a lot of drive to do them again.
John/Joe, thanks for the feedback. That is perhaps my only nit with this shot was the glass I used was pretty thin at the top and I did not get the dark outline of the edges at the top. I will try to the black card next time and see if that helps. The base was just a sheet of glass on top of a white poster board. It did a good job of providing the reflection I needed.

Creative! I would never thought of doing that Koveh. I like the one idea given of doing smoke photos. Next day I need something to do on a cold winter day :)

Pretty sweet. Looking forward to seeing more from you!
Very creative! I really like your use of light in this! And the clarity is fantastic.

Very creative, Koveh. I think you did a great job. And thanks for the inspiration. Next time the weather doesn't cooperate, I'll have to play around like this.

Very creative. I think a new puppy, young granddaughter, and a wife with a lot of redecorating ideas might help your winter boredom
