Greetings from another Colorado RMNP member.
Looks like Eric and I will be crossing paths at the end of March. I am actually a Brit, but live in the USA; I will be in Blighty end of March/April time 2011. We will be spending a few days in South Devon, probably based in Totnes close to relatives (though not set in stone yet).

I would really appreciate any tips/must see areas worth photographing in the Dartmoor/Dartmouth/Slapton areas, time is limited of course. I too am primarily a landscape photographer, but may try and bring a 400 lens for any wildlife.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

One of the better locations on Dartmoor has to be Wistmans Wood, a patch of relic oak woodland with stunted trees, reindeer lichen, ferns and boulders galore - it is located about 1 mile north of the hamlet Two Bridges which is just NE of Princetown - March will probably give you fair chances of morning mists which make the place really bewitching.

Another good area to centre on is Bovey Tracey with Yarner Wood, and the river walk north to Becky Falls.

The B3387 west out of Bovey Tracy takes you past some of the classic Torrs, Haytor rocks & Saddle Torr,

The whole of Dartmor west of Buckfastleigh is littered with relic stone circles and ancient settlements but you will need an OS map and compass to navigate around the area, its bleak open nature makes it quite a disorientating dangerous place if you plan to go deep off road

Thank you Mike for those great tips, that really helps with planning the trip. The misty landscape and Oak forest sounds just the ticket.
