I'm not even sure where I took this...Lake Michigan, Connecticut, or Florida.

The little red splotch on the bill says "Herring Gull" to me

I agree w/ Luke,
Herring gull.
I recall an instance while glassing gulls on the New Jersey shore when a tourist in Bermuda shorts and flip-flops walked up and asked, pointing at a herring gull, "...is that one of those migrating terns?". I responded " no, actually that's a gull, in fact it's....". At which point, before I could complete my learned disquisition, he turned and strode toward his (probably) wife shouting "it's a gull ... A gull....; I'd say it's a sea gull!"
Lumpers abound!

Probably one of the eastern subspecies of Herring Gull in winter plumage, Dan. I could be persuaded to a late stage sub-adult, but still a Herring Gull.

I'm with the others on Herring Gull. Primaries look like an adult to me.
