I have been to "Shooting the West" four times and agree with Reno.
It's very enjoyable, and for what you get not very expensive. Some
of the featured speakers in the past have been Jack Dykinga and
Elizabeth Carmel. The merchants in Winnemucca are very friendly.
The Merced Camera Club of which I'm a member put on a program
there about 4 years ago. Because the event is always held in late
March getting through Donner Pass one year could not have been
done without chains or 4WD.

While there,if you enjoy great restaurants, be sure to go to the historic
basque restaurant--the one near the RR tracks.

Thanks, Preston, for this posting.

This is a fun event. I attended four years ago, and took a 1st place. The event is run by Stuart Scofield (not one of the judges), my photography mentor for over 15 years. I began studying with him in 1995 and have attended 14 workshops and classes of his, many for a full week. Winnemucca is a hoot.
