I've been trying to get motivated to go out and shoot so last week I went out to GOTG on 3 straight mornings and finally got some color. My tripod ball head broke (cracked in three places) so ended up trying to handhold shots. This was my favorite non-blurry shot. Any critiques would be appreciated
Now this is more like it! Another one dives in. The water's fine, isn't it?
This has some sweet soft light and color, Scott! I really like the diagonal line of the receeding rocks. Your exposure brings in some great detail on the backside of the light.

Not much to add. Nicely composed and exposed with some sweet light.
So, how do you crack a ball head in three different places?!

I'm not sure John, I was using it and it started getting real tough to move around and kept getting worse until it wouldn't move at all. I took the camera off and found the metal ball itself had cracked into multiple pieces. This was a Manfrotto head that I've had for probably 3 years and never a problem. I don't know if it is possible to tighten it too much and it cracks, but that's all I can think of.

Great Scott!!...as the Daily Planet editor would say. This is front page material...nice color and comp.

I do like the comp and clouds, Scott, but my eyes are looking for the rocks to be just a bit brighter. Sorry about your ballhead. That's kinda freaky.
Update: Scott, I looked at this on my work monitor (not calibrated and adjusted WAY too bright) and it makes the rocks look good, to me, but the sky is washed out. This makes me think my original assessment was correct.

My original assessment is that all you need is a hint of detail in the rocks, which you have, to make this work. And it works BIG time!

Sweet, soft light! Definitely a winner!

+1 on the soft lighting. Well done.
