Cat's Out of the Bag
Well, I guess I'm still a little in denial, but after Koveh let the cat out of the bag in his earlier post (thanks buddy!), I guess I should say farewell to the RMNP forum for now. As of Oct., I have moved from the Denver area to the Monterey Bay area in CA (please don't hate me, I know how you all feel about most Californians). My wife has a great opportunity out here for her profession, and it's a good excuse for me to learn how to shoot in a different environment.

I want to thank you all for your support over my brief beginnings in this lifelong pursuit. When I first picked up a camera nearly 3 years ago, by dumb luck or fate I stumbled across this forum. I had no idea what I wanted to shoot at the time, but seeing the STUNNING work here, I soon began to gravitate toward nature and landscape photography and have never looked back. My first introduction to this community was me asking directions/road conditions to Wheeler Geologic Area of which Todd C. quickly chimed in, and I soon learned what a special group of people this was. I have always felt encouraged to post no matter my skill level, or seeming stupidity of a question, and have received a tremendous amount of invaluable feedback and support from all of you. All of you work with integrity, your modesty is humbling, and your humor shows a human side to this art. For those of you who I have had the pleasure of meeting in the field (or at CAZ gallery opening, or last year's shindig), it was truly a pleasure meeting each and every one of you and I hope our paths cross again in the future.

As a sort of farewell, I was hoping to share a website I've been working toward off and on for the last couple of months, but I guess I'll just share a few images from your neck of the woods. As always, comments and critiques are always welcome by me. Thank you once again, hopefully I am still "allowed" to comment on work shared here and share some of my work when I travel through this area (as well as chime in on Chris R's Deep Thoughts), and I would appreciate it if you shared your honest opinions on my work which I will now be posting on ESS or "Landscape." Thank you for your support and introducing me to this extremely satisfying and fulfilling art and changing my life forever. May the good light find you wherever you are! Cheers.

-Jared

PS-If any of you are ever out on the West Coast, I am always up for an adventure or to shoot with people (or show them around). Just shoot me an email.

This was shot at Lower AC in early November. It reminds me of a Dragons Back for some reason?

Spent a lonely and solitary night in Cathedral Valley in Cap Reef in early Nov., not even a coyote howling on this night

Lonesome Eagle Peak on a beautiful July night, 2010. This is a little soft and could use some reworking, but I liked the scene nonetheless and was drawn to the firepit sitting beneath the water level. The mosquitos were something FIERCE on this night!

Zebra Canyon shot in Nov, 2009

I hope we can post panos up to 1200px? No cranes here this time of year, but an awesome storm breaks up for sunset at the Monte Vista WLR, no HDR or tonemapping done to this image although it kind of looks that way in the clouds (unfortunately).

Shot near Page, AZ in Nov. just before sunset

Last one, hoping this uploads this time (man what a PITA). Shot near Page, AZ in Apr 2010. Thanks again for looking, have fun at the shindig :toast:

Holy Cow!!!!! You've been holding out on us! Every one of these images is freakin' fantastic! Dude, you're killing us here! Go to California and stop shaming us with this kind of work.

The Lonesome Eagle made me drool! I've been dying to get to that spot for years now and something always gets in the way of my plans. Love that you got a fire pit in the water, really cool.

Anyway, amazing collection! Now go show those Californians how to do photography

Going out with a bang huh J? I told you last week, you just had to catch a quick flight down here and we would show up to the shindig and nobody would have known you moved, but you had to go make a scene... As far as I am concerned you can post here anytime you like man.. just makes us feel better knowing our RMNP group is cooler than the coastal group.

BTW... killer images, but I think I told you that before.

I really like your treatment of color, Jared. And all of the comps are well done. I agree with Aleks, the firepit shot is just cool. I also like #1, #3, and #8. Strong set of images.
And yeah, pipe in anytime with more. The California forum seems like the second most active, compared to us. So I'm sure they will appreciate having you around.

That's an outstanding collection, Jared. :toast:
I'm looking forward to your website. Please let us know when it's ready.

Hard to pick a favorite, but I especially like the Cathedral Valley night shot. Certainly a different take from that area.

Hope you enjoy Monterey. It will be tough finding something to photograph, but it's better than Bakersfield.

You're certainly leaving us with one heck of a portfolio, Jared. Wow! I really like every image here, but I'm floored by Cathedral Valley, Lone Eagle, and the very last one. Your processing is top notch too. Best of luck in your new digs.

Very nice group of images for a farewell. I am drawn to the curves and glow in the last slot canyon image. Best to you and your wife in California.

What a great series!! I love Lone Eagle and it is on my list for this year. As far as I'm concerned you can post on this forum anytime you want...good luck in Ca.!!

Thank you all for your kind words and a for the farewell wishes. My roots are still in CO and I can never stay away for too long, so I'm sure I'll be back through there throughout the seasons as I'm able. My only regret is that I wasn't around long enough to really get to know a lot of you, but know that if you posted anything on this forum at all (not even related to my images), then you've made an impression upon me. Thanks for that.

Beautiful collection, Jared! Fine work. Living in CA doesn't mean you can't drop in here now and then! Don't be a stranger. Thanks for sharing these!

I echo CAZ's line: "You're killin' me here!" Sure, just dump a boatload of amazing artwork off-the-cuff then casually slip out the west door. We understand.

 Enjoy the new scene! Tear it up like you obviously tore up Page and other places, lol! Great images, my goodness.

The night shot is incredible. I love the composition.

Awesome series! We will be looking for you on the CANP forum.

Great collection, Jared...what a way to go!
However, after seeing 'The Culmination' at Flickr, I think you're gonna find great success there in the Golden State.
Remember us when you get famous, OK?
And by all means, give a shout out when you return!
