Powerful Desolation
The landscape version of the B&W posted on the main forums, taken minutes later from the same location on the alkili shores of Oregon's Abert Lake. It was a massive thunderstorm dumping hail backlit dramaticly in the late afternoon. My girlfriend figured I was crazy when I pulled over and started running across the muddy playa. Then I showed her the pictures.

Marc,
I'll have to give you a "WOW" on this one. The sky and land have similar swoops that converge in the center. That along with the B&W treatment, this is pretty awesome.(IMHO)

Does the other one get a "WOW"  I'd be interested to hear about any preferences between the two. Thanks for your comment Eric! I sure which weather like this would come to Oregon more often!

WOW! Marc, this is awesome man. This has drama and more drama, there is so much to like here, my favorite part is the texture of the earth in the creek bed. Glad you stopped and captured this incredible scene.

Auntie Em... Auntie Em....! I like this a bunch! Mainly because of the impact the sky gives with this type of comp. Usually the perfectly bisected frame with horizon depicts calm, but not so much here.... :toast:

I liked the portrait version for the aweome combo of abstract lake bed with the dramatic sky. For a true landscape shot, I clearly prefer this one, Marc. the cloud and that bit of reflection in the water are amazing and balance the shot better for me with more of a horizon line to "hold" that dramatic sky in check. If you tilt your head CCW a bit it almost looks like a ghost hand in the sky and a ghost hand in the water with the head being that dark cloud in front of the sun trying to grab you.... works for me

This is a very fine photograph, well seen, well executed. I prefer it over the portrait version for the better sense of place.

The backlit thunderstorm gives the desert scene a lot of drama and impact.
The image looks very elegant in b&w.
